BMRT has a new exciting offering to all ILCA sailors in the Midwest. We have agreed with coach Maru Urban to lead our ILCA practices in the fall.
Maru Urban started sailing at the age of 9 and soon he became one of the best Brazilians in the Optimist Class. In 1993 Maru won the Nationals, got the 7th place at the Worlds and 2nd in the Team Race World Championship. Maru sailed the Europe Class winning the Nationals in 1997 and went to 4 Worlds. He also sailed big boats at the time and later got interested in the Snipe class and he achieved a lot of excellent results. Maru was 8th at the Snipe Worlds in 2011, 2nd in in 2013 and 5th in 2015.
A year before the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, Maru was hired by the US Sailing Team as a consultant to help sailors better understand local condition.
After the Olympics, Maru was invited to come to work as a Sailing Head Coach at San Diego Yacht Club, one of the most traditional clubs in the US. In 2018, he moved to Florida to start a new challenge as a Head Coach at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club where he started one of the best Laser Programs in the US.
Maru was hired by the Lake Geneva Yacht Club as the waterfront director in spring of this year, he is now responsible for organizing the racing events at the Club. In the offseason, Maru will work with BMRT to help ILCA sailors on improving their skills and getting them ready for National and International events.
BMRT will run ILCA practices on Saturdays and Sundays 1-5pm. The number of participants is limited to maintain an efficient practice environment. Please register before the program fills up.
