OUR SAILORS IN THE NEWS
BMRT sailors had a great showing at the USODA Midwest Championships.
The races were sailed in challenging conditions, the remnants of hurricane Helene, positioned over Kentucky, forced strong gusty winds from the northeast. In the championship fleet, Mason Keane won all 7 races with a considerable lead proving he is the top sailor in the region. Mathias Urban finished in 4th place, Liam Wharton was 5th, George Lillwitz 7th, George Geye finished 10th and Levi Braeger 12th. Our youngest Red-White-Blue sailor Spencer Han won the under 11 white division with a 14th overall finish. There were 46 sailors competing.
The Green Fleet did not race on Saturday as the wind speed exceeded the limits for their division, but our sailors still went out to practice. That paid dividends on Sunday, when 4 races were started at the top of the allowed wind strength. Our competitors swept top 7 positions. Lead by Henry Sorenson, Regan, Sailor and Neve Irion finished in 2-4 respectively, Ellie and Tommy Heine followed in 5th and 6th and Emery Otzen was 7th. Big thank you goes to our coaches, the race committee and all volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.
